Why it matters
The enclosure changes bass output, cone movement, box size, tuning behavior, and failure modes.
Sealed boxes are usually simpler and more forgiving. Ported boxes can produce more bass near tuning, but the port must be sized and tuned correctly.
How it works
A sealed box acts like an air spring behind the driver. It rolls off smoothly and has no port output.
A ported box uses the air in the port as a resonant system. Around the tuning frequency, the port contributes output and cone movement drops. Below tuning, cone control can fall quickly.
