Symptom

Bass sounds thin, uneven, or missing. The build may measure fine close to the driver but weak at the listening position.

Most likely causes

  • One driver or subwoofer is wired with reversed polarity.
  • The listening position sits in a room null.
  • The enclosure leaks.
  • The port or box tuning does not match the design.
  • The woofer level is too low compared with the rest of the system.
  • The measurement is being read without room context.

Simple example

Phase Phase describes timing between waveforms. Around a crossover, poor phase alignment can make two drivers cancel instead of sum. Frequency response Frequency response shows how loud a speaker is at each frequency. It helps reveal balance, crossover behavior, box tuning, and room problems. Sealed vs ported A sealed box traps the rear wave in an airtight cabinet. A ported box uses a tuned vent to add bass output around tuning.
