Printed (in sections, glued) a small Karlson style coupler enclosure for a 4″ driver, mostly to see if the weird slot loading does anything. Surprisingly, it does — broad midbass lift and a unique sound. Not hi fi. Very fun.
Wanted heavy stands without paying boutique prices. Printed the molds, poured concrete, demolded, capped with MDF top plates. 14kg each, dead as a brick. The top plate spikes thread into inserts I cast into the concrete.
Built a TPA3255 amp from an Aliexpress board + a 48V/8A SMPS. For $70 all in the numbers are silly: <0.005% THD at 1W, dead quiet noise floor. Learned to add an inrush limiter after the SMPS made the lights flicker on power up.
The big one. Scan Speak Revelator 15W woofers in MTM around a R2904 tweeter, passive LR4 XO, real walnut veneer. Months of work. They sound like the money I spent on them, which is to say: very good and slightly painful.
The endgame build: 4 way active , eight amp channels, everything time aligned in DSP. Sub, woofer, mid, tweeter. Measurements attached — the step response is the cleanest I have ever gotten. It took a year. Worth it.
Six weeks, a lot of sawdust, and one ruined router bit later — it works. 18 Hz at reference in the garage, and it moves air you can feel in your chest. Single 18″ pro driver, 310L folded. The hardest part was keeping the folds airtight.
Lined up all 11 builds for a family photo. From a wonky first MDF box that buzzed, to the current active 3 ways. Every one taught me something the last one got wrong. If you are on build 1 and it sounds bad — keep going. It compounds.
Found a pair of Coral Flat 8 drivers at a flea market for €40. Reconed one, cleaned the other, mounted them on a simple H frame open baffle. The midrange is magic. Bass is... an open baffle, so, you know. Adding a helper woofer next.
Tiny 4″ + 19mm dome desktop monitors. Printed a shallow waveguide to pull the tweeter level down and match directivity. Active with a TPA3255 and a 2x4 HD. Near field on a desk they disappear. Couldn't be happier.
