Scope and operator
These Terms govern your use of Bassilisk, a free community platform for documenting DIY audio and related fabrication work. The service is operated by Konstantin Bobylov, Bernhardstr. 7, 09212 Limbach-Oberfrohna, Germany. Contact: legal@bassilisk.com.
By creating an account, you agree to these Terms. If applicable law does not allow you to agree on your own, you may use an account only with permission from a parent or legal guardian.
Your account
You sign in through Google, GitHub, Discord, or a one-time email link. Bassilisk does not store a password. Provide accurate account information, keep access to your selected provider or email account secure, and do not transfer or share your Bassilisk session.
One person may not operate multiple accounts to evade moderation, manipulate votes, or impersonate another author. Usernames must not infringe rights or misleadingly claim affiliation with another person or organisation.
The service
Bassilisk provides build publishing, Parts library, Team, discussion, review, following, notification, private messaging, measurement, system-diagram, media-reference, competition-history, and file-hosting tools. The service is currently free. There is no entitlement to a particular feature, storage allowance, publication, or uninterrupted availability.
Your content
You retain ownership of builds, text, photographs, measurements, CAD files, plans, DSP projects, archives, part and manufacturer submissions, Team material, and other material you submit. You grant Bassilisk a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, technically adapt, publish, and display that material only as needed to operate and promote the Bassilisk service. This includes delivery through infrastructure providers and previews shared from Bassilisk pages.
Private messages are visible to their participants. If a participant reports a message, Bassilisk may review that reported message and its conversation context as reasonably needed to evaluate abuse, enforce these Terms, or meet a legal obligation. Private messaging is not an end-to-end encrypted service.
You must own the submitted material or have every permission needed to upload and distribute it. Identify third-party licences where required. Do not remove attribution, licence notices, or technical restrictions from material you do not own.
The licence ends when the content or account is deleted, except for temporary technical copies in caches or disaster-recovery systems and copies lawfully made by other people before deletion.
Parts library
Parts library records and manufacturer profiles are shared reference data. You may submit a new part or suggest a correction only when the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge and you may lawfully provide the associated text, images, specifications, and links. Build-specific part configuration remains part of the build that records it.
Moderators may approve, reject, correct, merge a duplicate into a canonical record, or archive a library record. An approval confirms only that the contribution passed the community review process. It is not a certification of a manufacturer claim, specification, compatibility, safety, or fitness for a particular build.
Teams
Teams let authors publish a shared identity and show membership on profiles and bylines. A Team name, logo, description, country, website, membership, role, and join state must be accurate and must not imply an affiliation that does not exist. Team names, slugs, and logos are reviewed before first publication; later identity changes may remain pending while the approved identity stays public.
The Team owner and administrators manage the Team and its membership. Membership does not transfer ownership of an author’s individual contributions or make Bassilisk responsible for agreements between members. If an owner deletes their account without first transferring ownership, the Team and its membership records are deleted.
Content rules
You may not submit or use Bassilisk to distribute:
- illegal material, threats, targeted harassment, or discriminatory abuse;
- malware, credential theft, deceptive downloads, or instructions intended to cause harm;
- personal data about another person without a valid reason and permission;
- spam, undisclosed commercial promotion, manipulated engagement, or repetitive solicitations;
- material that infringes copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights;
- dangerous instructions presented in a misleading way or with known critical safety information removed.
The detailed conduct rules form part of these Terms and appear in the Community Guidelines.
Moderation
Contributions, including builds, articles, Parts library records, manufacturer corrections, and Team identities, may be reviewed before or after publication. Bassilisk may request changes, merge duplicate reference records, limit visibility, reject, remove, or preserve material when reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, protect the service or another person, or comply with law. Serious or repeated violations may result in an account restriction or termination.
Report illegal or rights-infringing material to legal@bassilisk.com. Include the URL, what you believe is unlawful, and enough information to evaluate the report. Authors may use the same address to request review of a moderation decision.
Build safety
Verify specifications, component ratings, local rules, and protective measures before acting on a build. Stop if you are not qualified to perform the work safely. Authors are responsible for describing known hazards in their own contributions.
Availability and changes to the service
Bassilisk may change, suspend, or discontinue features for maintenance, security, legal, or operational reasons. Reasonable notice will be given where a change materially affects stored author content and advance notice is practical.
Liability
Statutory liability applies without limitation for intent, gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, fraud, and liability that cannot legally be excluded. For slight negligence involving an essential contractual duty, liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this type of service. Otherwise, liability for slight negligence is excluded to the extent permitted by law.
Bassilisk does not adopt community contributions as its own. No warranty is given that a community design is complete, safe, fit for a purpose, or free of third-party rights. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
Ending your account
You may download your account data or permanently delete your account from Settings → Your data. Account deletion removes your profile, builds, discussions, messages, Parts library submissions and corrections, Team ownership and membership, interactions, sessions, and uploaded files from active systems. If you own a Team, transfer ownership before deletion if the Team should remain. Provider recovery copies expire under their normal backup cycles and are not used for ordinary processing.
Bassilisk may terminate an account for a material or repeated breach after notice where notice is reasonable. Immediate action remains possible for urgent security, safety, or legal reasons.
Changes and applicable law
Material changes are shown by a new version date. Signed-in authors will be asked to accept materially revised Terms before contributing again.
German law applies, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence remain unaffected. Statutory rules determine jurisdiction.
