The Listener Build of the Month is a published build selected by a Bassilisk admin for a particular month. The award appears on the build page and its cards, and the Hall of Fame records selections by year and month.
Why it matters
The award gives readers another way to find a build worth opening. Its month identifies when the build was selected. That date is separate from the build's publication date, project status and Build Guide level.
Use the award as a route into the project. Read its Showcase, check the available Build Guide and inspect the supporting material to understand what the author has shared.
How it works
A Bassilisk admin chooses the month in Studio, selects a published build from the candidate list and confirms the selection. There is one selection per month. An admin can replace it or clear it later.
The candidate list includes published builds with and without a Build Guide. It does not require Finished status, a Full guide, a minimum review count or publication during the selected month. Older builds and previous winners can appear in the list again. Unpublished drafts do not appear in the picker.
Studio orders suggestions using stored review and follower data, with publication date breaking score ties. That order helps the admin browse candidates. The admin makes the selection; the highest score does not automatically win. Forum upvotes and accepted answers are not a ballot for this award.
The selection appears in these places:
- On the build page, an award line lists the selected month or months and links to the award archive.
- On build cards, a star marker identifies the award and names its month in the marker's label. Outside the archive, the card uses the build's latest selected month.
- On the homepage, the marker appears when the winning build is among the cards in Latest builds. That list follows publication date; receiving the award does not pin the build there.
- In the Build of the Month archive, the Hall of Fame arranges selections in a calendar for the chosen year. Open a winning card to read the build.
What to check
Use the year controls in the archive to look at earlier selections. An unfilled current month says Not picked yet. An unfilled future month says Open, and an unfilled past month says No winner. These labels describe the calendar slot; they do not provide a nomination form or a selection deadline.
For your own build, check that it is published and that the public page presents the work accurately. The award does not fill in missing guide steps, files or measurements. Keep the project status and guide level accurate, whether or not the build is selected.
For a winning build you want to follow, check the guide level separately. A selected Showcase can have no Build Guide at all. A selected build with a guide still needs to be read for its instructions, files and access requirements.
Common mistakes
- Treating the candidate score as an automatic election result.
- Assuming only builds published that month can be selected.
- Reading the award as a Full guide label or expecting every winner to remain on the homepage.
