Why it matters
The toolchain decides how much trust you can put in the graph.
A calibrated microphone, sensible levels, correct routing, and repeatable mic placement are more important than fancy analysis. Poor setup can make a good speaker look bad.
How it works
Measurement software such as REW sends a sweep through the speaker and records the response. A USB measurement mic is simple because the interface is built in. An XLR measurement mic needs an audio interface with phantom power.
Calibration files correct the microphone response. Loopback timing or acoustic timing can help with phase and delay work.
