Watts help set limits.
Amplifier watts describe how much electrical power an amplifier can deliver under stated conditions. Speaker watts usually describe heat handling, and sometimes a recommended amplifier range. Neither number proves clean output by itself.
How it works
Power depends on voltage and load. In a simplified resistive case:
More wattage can increase maximum output, but loudness also depends on sensitivity, distance, room gain, enclosure behavior, distortion, and the frequency being played.
